East Coast

Untouched Beaches & Sacred Sites

OVERVIEW

East Coast

The east coast is Sri Lanka's emerging frontier — less developed, more raw, and impossibly beautiful. Trincomalee in the north boasts one of the world's finest natural harbours, flanked by pristine beaches like Nilaveli and Pigeon Island. Further south, Pasikuda's calm turquoise waters are perfect for families, while Arugam Bay is a world-renowned surf destination drawing wave riders from across the globe. The east is best visited from April to September when the west coast receives its monsoon, making this region a brilliant alternative for a year-round Sri Lanka experience.

The east coast offers Sri Lanka's most uncrowded beaches and a genuine sense of discovery. Trincomalee's Koneswaram Temple perched above the ocean is breathtaking, Pigeon Island is a snorkelling paradise, and Arugam Bay has some of the best surf breaks in Asia.
