OVERVIEW
Fujairah
Fujairah stands apart from the other Emirates in almost every way. It is the only emirate located entirely on the east coast, facing the Gulf of Oman rather than the Arabian Gulf. The dramatic Hajar Mountains form a rugged backbone, plunging into azure waters to create a coastline of rocky coves, sandy beaches, and some of the UAE's best diving and snorkeling sites. Fujairah Fort, dating to the 16th century, is one of the oldest fortifications in the country. The emirate's smaller scale and natural beauty make it a refreshing counterpoint to the urban spectacle of Dubai and Abu Dhabi. Snoopy Island (named for its shape) off Al Aqah beach is one of the UAE's most accessible snorkeling spots, while Dibba and its dramatic fjord-like coastline offer kayaking, diving, and coastal boat trips.
Fujairah is the UAE's nature escape. The combination of mountain scenery, east-coast beaches, and excellent marine life is unlike anything else in the Emirates. It is perfect for a day trip from Dubai or a two-night coastal retreat that reveals a very different side of the UAE.
