OVERVIEW
Nuwara Eliya
Set at nearly 1,900 metres above sea level, Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka's highest town and a world apart from the tropical lowlands. The British colonists who established their tea plantations here in the 19th century dubbed it 'Little England' for its cool climate, manicured gardens, and mock-Tudor architecture. Today the town is surrounded by an endless carpet of emerald tea estates, misty waterfalls, and flower-filled valleys. The air is crisp, the pace unhurried, and the tea is the finest you will ever taste.
Nuwara Eliya is the heart of Ceylon tea country. Visiting a working tea factory, walking through the rolling green estates, and sipping a fresh cup overlooking the hills is an experience unique to Sri Lanka.
